So let's get right to it: How can I help you? It's best to start there, because this site is a bit, well, overwhelming. I am an author, a speaker, a consultant, a publisher, not to mention a travel, history, and dance afficionado.
And yes, I once played the bass in the Boston Pops, and I have been eternally fascinated with what it was that made the great conductors "great." I now offer a pre-industrial era artistic perspective on communication, education, management, and leadership. It's back in fashion!
I am also a publisher of various books and plays-- above/left, that's me in Rio, at a premiere of one of my musical comedies. I have managed chamber music groups and orchestras, and I write all sorts of management advice columns and books. But enough about me. Again, how can I help you? Perhaps you require a fun and unusual speaker for your upcoming event . . . or maybe just a different perspective on things.
Feel free to poke around, watch a video or two and maybe read some of the 500+ posts on my blog (yes, I like to shove nouns against verbs). I love to talk about the tricky emotional issues of management. And yes, I also like to make people laugh. And yes, I really am in the Guinness Book of World Records, for playing the Bicentennial Boston Pops Concert with Arthur Fiedler.
Check out Justin's Bio,
books, the blog, his facebook page, or read his internationally acclaimed orchestral family concerts, and even better, watch some of the fun videos below, including his appearance on the prestigious "authors@google" series.
Below, strictly for fun, a little story from Justin's days as a bass player: a musical meltdown at a Boston Pops concert (from his book, Real Men Don't Rehearse:
“Justin Locke . . . borders on genius I think.” – Mary Richardson, WCVB-TV, Boston
Next, Justin's recent appearance on the "authors@google" series, speaking on his second book, "Principles of Applied Stupidity." This book (and presentation) is about the emotional fundamentals of managing and motivating people:
Principles of Applied Stupidity was the focus of an entire episode of Chronicle HD, a popular nightly newsmagazine show on Boston's ABC affiliate, WCVB (see video further down the page).
“Justin, our attendees’ evaluation of your presentation was the highest of all the speakers for the two
days. In fact you received the same score as the celebration we had the night before with open bar,
shrimp, etc.! People are still talking about you.” – Ron Ponte, Director, Partners Healthcare / Newton-Wellesley Hospital Leadership Institute
"Read the book, then book the speaker! Justin Locke’s hilarious presentation made me look like a marketing genius. Just one word of caution when scheduling Justin - he’s a hard act to follow!" – Madeleine Crouch, Executive Director, Retail Print Music Dealers Association
Hi, Justin here . . . I would love to share some stories of my unusual artistic adventures with your group. It will be fun.

Below, Justin's appearance on WGBH with Emily Rooney:
Justin's second book, "Principles of Applied Stupidity" was the focus of an entire episode of WCVB's Chroncle HD, a popular nightly program in the Boston area:
The Principles of Applied Stupidity is a fun look at truly unconventional approaches to management, and having the courage to be your unique self.
Justin Locke has a unique, and massive, performance resume. As a professional musician, he played over 3,000 concerts, including the Boston Pops Bicentennial Concert with Arthur Fiedler (which is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest audience ever at a classical music concert). He worked with some of the greatest conductors of our time, including Henry Mancini, John Williams, and Leonard Bernstein. His musical comedies are performed all over the world, he is the author of one of the funniest books ever written on classical music, and he is one of the most engaging storytellers you will find anywhere.
Re: audience response, you needn't take our word for it. You can read some actual audience evaluations.
"I would highly recommend Justin's lectures . . . a very entertaining and comedic insight into the world of classical music!"

Marriott's Custom House, Boston
